Making Connections on the Gateway and Beyond: BTS at the Gateway Talent Fair and Food Truck Roundup

One word comes to mind when thinking of last week’s Gateway Talent Fair 2.0 and Food Truck Roundup: Success. Actually, maybe two: Huge success. This year’s Gateway Talent and Food Truck event featured 26 companies from the Intelligence Community and beyond, three local food trucks, and live music. The turnout was great, the weather held out, and no one left hungry.

Ignite, Briefly

When it came time for ADG’s Chief Creative Officer Jeff Antkowiak to speak at the third annual Ignite Howard County, he chose the topic of brevity. So I’ll keep this brief. In short, Ignite brings together a series of speakers who each touch on a topic of their choice for just five minutes, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds. Talk about brief.

Building Community on Columbia Gateway Drive: The Saga Continues

For those unfamiliar with the origin of Col Gateway, let’s first take a drive—a drive along Route 175 near the Interstate 95 junction. Unless a Howard County resident, or a frequent commuter, one might mistake the abbreviation of a few particular signs. Positioned along grassy knolls, the signs read: “Col Gateway Dr.” A common abridging for the military ranking of “Colonel,” this here is a curtailing for “Columbia.” It took some time, but the “wouldn’t it be funny if…” soon turned into a tangible character, a Twitter campaign, and eventually … Continue reading

Are You Ready for When Millennials Take Over?

According to a recent Super Important Research Study,* most of the content on the internet is basically conjecture regarding the likes, dislikes, preferences and work habits of Millennials (see chart below). This is not at all surprising but given the sheer volume of speculation about all things Millennial, so how do you cut through the billions of articles and statistics and simply figure out what changes to make in your organization to allow for another generation to flourish?

Ignite Howard County: A Recipe for Success

Last night I had the pleasure of speaking at (and attending) HCEDA’s first-ever Ignite Howard County, a fast-paced and eclectic event aimed at bringing people together to share ideas and inspire new thinking. Consisting of 12 short presentations (5 minutes each), it was a top-notch success and here’s why: Venue: Jailbreak was the perfect spot. Nice weather, doors open, beer flowing. You could tell people were dialed in to the event and the great space and fine drink helped solidify the atmosphere. Add a brick oven pizza truck and you’ve got … Continue reading

Good Karma Friday: HoCo Food Bank

Every Friday (unless we’re crazy busy) we feature people, brands and organizations we really, really like. They might be clients, they might not, but all deserve to be heard. Last week, our friends at Toll Brothers, located across the street from ADG, held a food drive that benefitted the Howard County Food Bank. We were happy to support their drive and donate a few bagfuls of canned and boxed items ourselves. The Howard County Food Bank, located off Route 108 in Columbia, is run by the Community Action Council (CAC) of … Continue reading

Howard County Bloggers Unite! And Tweet

This past Monday, a team of ADGers had the opportunity to attend a one-day intensive on Blogging and Social Media presented by David Hobby and hosted by HoCoBlogs, an online library that supports the numerous blogs and online personas of residents in the Howard County area.  As aficionados of all things blog/social, this workshop was fuel for our fires and we wanted to share a few takeaways from the event. Without further ado, here are the top 5 nuggets I took away from the workshop. 5. PLUG IN and MOVE FAST We’re … Continue reading
