the proof is in the pudding

Ever wonder where the phrase, "the proof is in the pudding" came from? Yea, us either — but this just may win you a game of Trivial Pursuit one day, so here it goes ... the etymology of the phrase originated around 1615 as "the proof of the pudding is in the eating." What it really means is that the true value or quality of something can only be judged when it's put to use. The meaning is often summed up as "results are what count."
