Hip Spoofs

Hipsters seem to be the target of ridicule du jour. adg_hipster_logo

Perhaps it is because they make it just so easy to poke fun. I mean, really easy. In case you aren’t familiar with hipsters, this quote from Time magazine’s Brief History of Hipsters pretty much sums it up:

Hipsters are the friends who sneer when you cop to liking Coldplay. They’re the people who wear T-shirts silk-screened with quotes from movies you’ve never heard of and the only ones in America who still think Pabst Blue Ribbon is a good beer. They sport cowboy hats and berets and think Kanye West stole their sunglasses. Everything about them is exactingly constructed to give off the vibe that they just don’t care.

The true marker of success is when you are the subject of video spoofs. And not just any video spoof, but quality, professional, and comedic-genius spoofs. Hispters have certainly achieved this. On this April Fool’s Day we present to you a finely curated collection of some of the finest hipster spoof videos, all in good fun, and with an eye toward our shared craft of creative communications.

Artisanal Toilet Paper

A late-addition. Thank you, Quilted Northern, for this gem. “Come with us as we roll back 100 years of innovation.”

Timmy Brothers Water

The Brooklyn-based Timmy Brothers craft artisan water. Watch their story and they will bottle the tears from your laughter.

Artisan Firewood

The scary part on this one is I think there is a market for this as decorative firewood in fireplaces that are never used.

Assemble-it-Yourself Honda Fit

Honda even got in on the mix with this couple ordering their new Honda FitKit.

Watching these stellar spoofs begs two questions:

  1. What will be the target-du-jour for spoofs in 2016?
  2. What is the anatomy of a spoof (so you can craft your own – that is the hipster way)?

Comment below with your predictions for #1 and check back here for ADG’s very own Joel Loukus’ take on what makes a great spoof video.
